Covid restrictions and physical activity

Updated: 10th December 2021

On 8th December, the Government announced moving to Plan B in response to the risks of the Omicron variant.

The Plan B guidance is to:

  • Wear a face covering in most indoor public places and on public transport
  • Get tested and self-isolate if required
  • Work from home, if you can
  • Get vaccinated
  • Let fresh air in if you meet indoors. Meeting outdoors is safer

With regard to wear a face covering there are exceptions including that there is currently no requirement to wear a face covering during exercise. However it is advised to wear one when entering or leaving venues you attend to undertake exercise.

We know many people will still have questions as to what this means for sport and physical activity, to help here is a link to Sport England Frequently Asked Questions

The Activity Alliance has created a very useful resource in their Reopening activity: An inclusive response document.

Here is a link that resource

Sport England has also been tracking people’s attitudes and intentions towards playing sport, and created a helpful document featuring their latest insight with ideas on how to encourage people to safely return to their favourite sports and activities.

Energize continues to work in a flexible way to…

  • Support and work with stakeholders to enable local people (especially those who may be vulnerable and isolated) to stay healthy and active during this time.  For example we are currently open for applications for the Sport England Tackling Inequalities Fund. All the information on this is here.  Details of other activities we are involved in are listed in the ‘What We Do’ section of our website.

  • Look after our own Energize staff and ensure our working practices remain safe and effective.  We continue to work from home so if you need to contact us all our contact details are here

Please look after yourselves.

Best wishes from all the Energize team.
