The Everyday Cycling Project is now launching in Donnington to help get local people using bikes for short everyday journeys.

The project team (from Shropshire Cycle Hub) will work with people in the Donnington area to help them find the equipment, skills, and confidence needed to cycle on a regular basis.

The motivation for this project came about because cycling is so good for mental and physical health, it provides independence and a cheap form of transport, and it’s good for the environment when it replaces car journeys.

Energize’s involvement began as a result of money awarded by the Sports Council Trust Company, with whom we have a long history, to help people living within a 20 mile radius of Lilleshall National Sports Centre to become more active. We were already speaking with the team at Shropshire Cycle Hub about possible projects in the Telford & Wrekin area and so were able to bring the two organisations together.

The Shropshire Cycle Hub project plan was already in very good shape, but what they needed was a host venue and location for the delivery of the scheme. Here we were able to help too by connecting them with our partners in the Health Improvement Team at Telford & Wrekin Council, who in turn were able to recommend Donnington as a suitable location and also introduce them to Donnington Community Hub Manager and local councillor, Richard Overton. He was very keen to be involved and support the initiative.
