Opportunity to Develop Energize's 'Youth Voice Forum'

Scope of Work

Energize are seeking a provider to work on a self-employed basis to establish, nurture and coordinate a 'Youth Voice Forum'.   The successful provider will be experienced and enthusiastic about working with young people and willing to go the extra mile to help those facing additional challenges to get involved.

The provider will report to and initially work closely with Energize's Youth Engagement Manager to create a plan, but it is envisaged that a majority of the time will be spent working with partners, groups and young people in the community.

Energize are keen to understand the benefits that young people may experience and how we can reward them for their contribution.   The successful provider will have experience of achieving outcomes for young people and be competent in capturing and reporting meaningful data and insight.

The forum

The forum will be a platform for young people to share their thoughts and ideas to shape local provision, suggest improvements and celebrate success.

Meeting on a monthly basis, the group will champion the needs and priorities of a diverse range of young people and will actively engage those who are perceived as 'harder to reach'.   We also envisage that the group, in time, may be approached by local professionals who are interested in gaining their views to help shape local statutory and community services.

Examples of some of the young people who will be approached.

  • Those at risk of offending
  • Those with challenging behaviour
  • Looked after children
  • Those with poor mental and emotional wellbeing.

Identifying young people

Energize already have established relationships with local partner, organisations who will assist in identifying young people.  The group will be diverse and the provider will build relationships and establish trust to encourage young people to take part.

The role of the provider

The provider will work flexibly for approximately 8 hours per week.   They will work on an independent, flexible basis in locations of their choice, which will be agreed with Energize, ensuring that the forum is accessible for the needs of young people.

The provider will work with Energize to establish an action plan, but their general responsibilities will consist of:

  • identifying and enthusing suitable young people
  • Inducting young people into the forum
  • Organising the forums (e.g. booking facilities, arranging transport where necessary, organising refreshments, clothing incentive).
  • Leading the monthly forums (with support from a member of the Energize team)
  • Capturing data and insight from the forums
  • Gathering feedback from the group to shape future

Reporting and Governance

The successful provider will:

  • Report directly to the Engagement Manager, but will also engage with the wider team.
  • Maintain weekly updates with the Engagement Manager
  • Already have an Enhanced DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) check, or be willing to complete one.
  • Maintain high standards of governance, e.g. completing risk assessments, adhering to policies in safeguarding, lone working, data protection and health and safety.   (The successful provider may already have these in place, or can utilise Energize policies).
