At the end of November 2021, 152 Year 7 pupils from 16 different secondary schools attended the County School Games Engagement Events across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin. The events were non-competitive and worked on team-work skills, communication and had an emphasis on having fun whilst being active and trying new sports.

The aim was to reach out to pupils who were unlikely to have taken part in the traditional, competitive School Games events and give them a chance to enjoy the benefits of getting together, having a go at new things and hopefully get the positive buzz from being active.

The surveys conducted at the end of each event gave us some interesting feedback which we will use to create more engagement events across 2022.

47% of pupils had never attended a School Games event before

80% rated the events 8/10 or higher

74% felt a little or a lot more confident to do sport again after the event

Seeing all the students getting actively involved with all the sessions was great. All students had smiles on their faces the whole time
