Health and wellbeing enthusiasts from University Centre Shrewsbury, Shrewsbury Colleges Group, Energize, Shropshire Council and Shropshire Mind along with GPs from several local practices are working together to promote the programme which will be led by Glenn Francke, Head Coach with the Shropshire Shufflers.

Glenn explained. “We regularly organise beginner running groups so that in itself is not a new concept. We can use that experience to help with any anxieties about running for the first time, or help with any concerns around re-engaging with physical activity.”

“But what is really exciting is that by working together with such a wide range of organisations we can hopefully attract a whole new group of people to get involved and start to experience the mental and physical health benefits of social running in our beautiful town.”

The 10 week programme which starts at 6.45pm on Tuesday 10th September, led by the Shufflers running club, is open to absolutely anyone wanting to have a go at running. Everyone is welcome and no prior experience is required - just a decent pair of trainers and lots of enthusiasm!

Each week there will be a chance to socialise and celebrate progress in a local café and after 10 weeks, on Saturday 16th November, the plan is to all take part in Shrewsbury Parkrun together.
