Barrow 1618 School are fortunate enough to have extensive grounds but were unable to offer a broad range of outdoor sporting clubs due to limited equipment.

Keen to expand their extra-curricular provision and strengthen the links they had with their local football club, they used some of their Opening Schools Facilities Fund to purchase new football goals, a line marker and cones.

They have been able to provide an after-school club led by an FA trained coach which has been a huge hit with children from reception to Year 6.  The children have learnt skills including teamwork and leadership.  Teaching staff have seen big improvements in wellbeing and self-confidence after the pupils had been separated for so long due to bubble restrictions.

With a lined pitch and safe goals, the school has been able to  lease their facilities twice a week to the Under 10 team from Broseley Youth Sports, who otherwise wouldn't have had the opportunity to train and play games in their league.

Earnings from the lettings enables the school to purchase equipment for more clubs, making it a long term, sustainable proposition.

"The funding has enabled us to provide quality after school provision and provision to the wider youth community"
