Burton Burough was one of 32 schools across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin to be awarded 'Opening School Facilities' funding from Energize. The purpose of the fund was to open schools to local community organisations to increase opportunities for local residents to be active and to help re-establish extra-curricular activity within schools.

Having used the funds to purchase new goals, Burton Borough has been able to run far more football sessions that have been targeted at girls only. From their own students, and looking at best practice elsewhere, they identified that many girls wanted to access football clubs that were solely for girls. They now run training sessions for year groups 7 to 11 every week. The attendance at these clubs has been very positive. They have also entered more competitive games than ever before, giving many students their first opportunity to represent the school.

"They’re great to use and because there is so many it means loads more of us can play"
