Windmill Primary School was one of 32 schools across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin to be awarded 'Opening School Facilities' funding from Energize. The purpose of the fund was to open schools to local community organisations to increase opportunities for local residents to be active and to help re-establish extra-curricular activity within schools.

Since September 2021, Windmill Primary has used their funding to help set up a gymnastics and dance club with experienced coaches from the local area. Not only has this enabled the school to build strong links with local clubs it has offered a platform for gifted children to access high level coaching to develop skills. In addition, it has enabled the school to offer subsidised, affordable routes into such activities for children may not have been able to afford otherwise. Both clubs are inclusive of SEND children.

“I really love doing dance because the club is for everyone, it doesn’t matter if you’re really good or not or if you’re a boy or a girl”
