As a nationwide initiative, School Games has a vision to make a clear and meaningful difference to the lives of even more children and young people.

It's mission is putting physical activity and competitive sport at the heart of schools and providing more young people with the opportunity to compete and achieve their personal best.

Take a look at our School Games 2022-23 video to see the various activities 1,952 pupils have participated in:

What this means for Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin

School Games Organisers have aligned what they offered this year to meet the needs of the schools and young people in their area. This year there has been less focus on competition pathway through to County festivals and finals and instead a more rounded offer to provide a blend of engaging, inspiring and competitive events.

What this looks like for 2023/24

Events across the year fall into one of three categories – ‘Engage’, ‘Inspire’ and ‘Compete’ which will give Primary Schools a blended offer of non-competitive and competitive events.

Engage – Non-competitive events will take place across this academic year to encourage more engagement in the School Games programme. We will be running a Young Leaders programme to help support and deliver Year 3 engagement events and support SEND multi sport days throughout the year. Primary inclusion festivals at the Cavalier Centre for pupils with a physical disability will also take place during the 23/24 academic year.

Inspire – This academic year we are running a Primary development day for Year 5/6's focused on Netball, which will also include upskilling staff with CPD. Towards the end of the academic year we are also going to run a Mini-olympics themed event (linking in with Paris 2024 olympics) to inspire pupils across the county to get active and try new activities.

Compete – We will be running four competitions this year. These will be Sportshall Athletics, Kwik Cricket, Dodgeball, Tag Rugby and Netball. These county finals will follow on from the qualifiers that are delivered locally by the School Games Organisers.
