As a nationwide initiative, School Games has a vision to make a clear and meaningful difference to the lives of even more children and young people.

It's mission is putting physical activity and competitive sport at the heart of schools and providing more young people with the opportunity to compete and achieve their personal best.

Take a look at our School Games 2023-24 video to see the various activities 1,637 pupils have participated in:

What this means for Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin

School Games Organisers have aligned what they offered this year to meet the needs of the schools and young people in their area. This year there has been less focus on competition pathway through to County festivals and finals and instead a more rounded offer to provide a blend of engaging, inspiring and competitive events.

What this looks like for 2024/25

Events over the last two years have fallen into one of three categories – ‘Engage’, ‘Inspire’ and ‘Compete’ which will give Primary Schools a blended offer of non-competitive and competitive events.

Engage – Non-competitive events took place across this academic year to encourage more engagement in the School Games programme. We ran a Young Leaders programme to help support and deliver Year 3 engagement events and support SEND multi sport days throughout the year. Primary inclusion festivals at the Cavalier Centre for pupils with a physical disability will also took place during the 23/24 academic year.

Inspire – This academic year we ran a Primary development day for Year 5/6's focused on Netball, which included upskilling staff with CPD.

Compete – We ran four competitions this year. These were Sportshall Athletics, Kwik Cricket, Dodgeball, Tag Rugby and Netball. These county finals followed on from the qualifiers that are delivered locally by the School Games Organisers.
